Market Chai Decaf is the naturally decaffeinated version of the classic masala chai — a spiced black tea blend with roots in the Indian chai walla tradition. The spice blend typically includes cardamom, cinnamon, ginger, clove, and black pepper, combined with a decaffeinated black tea base. The flavor profile is identical to the caffeinated version: warming, spiced, aromatic, and well-suited to preparation with milk and sweetener in the traditional chai method.
Masala chai as prepared in India is simmered with milk and sugar, creating a rich, sweet, spiced drink fundamentally different from Western-style steeped tea. Village Roaster’s loose-leaf chai blend can be prepared either by steeping in hot water or by simmering with milk for the traditional preparation.
Brew at 195°F for 4–5 minutes. Use 2–3 grams per 8-ounce cup. For traditional chai: simmer with equal parts water and milk, add sweetener, and strain.
