We sell only the highest grades of loose-leaf tea — full leaves, FTGFOP-grade blacks, first-flush Darjeelings, ceremonial-grade greens. No fannings, no dust, no fillers, no commodity tea bags. The leaf is the product.
Most of our tea passes through G.S. Haly — a tea import house in San Mateo, California, founded in 1939 and run by the same family ever since. They have been buying tea at origin for over 85 years, building relationships with gardens in Assam, Darjeeling, Yunnan, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Japan, and beyond. They were importing loose-leaf when American grocery stores were stocked with paper bags of sweepings, and they have outlasted three generations of cheaper competitors by refusing to compromise on quality. When a great lot of first-flush Darjeeling arrives at the port of Long Beach, the Haly family is the reason it crosses the country instead of staying in a warehouse in Asia.
From their warehouse the tea travels to our shop in Lakewood, Colorado, where we inspect every shipment, cup the lots before they go on the shelf, and hand-pack each order to ship to you. Loose-leaf only. No tea bags unless you ask for them.
