Also known as Yerba Mate, this caffeinated herbal tea is made from leaves and twigs of the Ilex paraguariensis plant that are typically dried over a fire. This tea commonly prepared and consumed in a gourd using metal tea straw. This is especially true in parts of South America where this drink is common such as Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay, as well as parts of Brazil and Bolivia and Southern Chile. This tea has a strong grassy and earthy quality and because it has more caffeine than green tea it has more of those fat burning and metabolism-boosting benefits which also make it a more potent appetite-suppressant. Note: If you are one who avoids PAH, you will want to avoid Mate also as it contains PAH due to the fire-drying process.
