Young Hyson is a traditional Chinese green tea style with a name that dates to the East India Company tea trade of the 17th and 18th centuries — Hyson comes from a Chinese term meaning ‘flourishing spring,’ and Young Hyson refers to the early-harvest, smaller, more tender leaves. The tea consists of twisted, long leaves with a slightly grassy, sweet, and light character — less assertive than Gunpowder, more accessible than premium Dragonwell, and traditionally considered an everyday drinking green tea.

Young Hyson was among the most exported Chinese green teas to Europe in the colonial era, and it remains a classic style that bridges the gap between delicate premium greens and more robust everyday styles.

In the cup, Young Hyson brews a clear yellow-green. The aroma is lightly grassy and clean. The body is light, the flavor mild and pleasant, the finish clean and gentle.

Brew at 175°F for 2–3 minutes. Use 2 grams per 6-ounce cup.
