Sencha Decaf is the naturally decaffeinated version of Japan’s most beloved green tea — produced by applying a decaffeination process to traditional Japanese Sencha, the steamed, needle-shaped green tea that accounts for approximately 80% of Japan’s tea production. The decaffeination process removes most caffeine while attempting to preserve the characteristic umami, grassy, and marine character of Sencha. The result is a cup with the familiar Sencha profile that can be enjoyed in the afternoon or evening without caffeine sensitivity concerns.
Sencha is distinguished from all other green teas by its steaming process: freshly plucked leaves are passed through steam for 15–90 seconds to halt oxidation, locking in vivid green color, L-theanine (umami amino acid), and the fresh, vegetal aromatics that define the style.
In the cup, Sencha Decaf brews a pale green-gold. The aroma is fresh and grassy, with the characteristic green, vegetal note of Sencha. The body is light-medium, the finish clean.
Brew at 175°F for 2–3 minutes. Use 2 grams per 6-ounce cup.
